Professional Tidbits

One of my biggest accomplishments has been my work during the 2006 reauthorization of the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act and its implementation over the past few years. I served as ACTE’s lead on this issue, and worked closely with staff of the key congressional committees that were considering the legislation. I provided input on new ideas that were ultimately considered part of the legislation, such as programs of study, and was a go-to person for staff with questions about the implication of policy proposals. After the law was passed, I traveled around the country briefing CTE professionals on the new requirements, worked closely with the Department of Education on implementation issues and wrote the majority of the content for ACTE’s official Perkins guide, Perkins Act of 2006: The Official Guide.

I developed the concept for, authored or contributed to, and supervised the production of a series of Issue Briefs that outline career and technical education’s role in broader policy issues. Issue Briefs can be viewed at www.acteonline.org/issuebriefs.aspx.
